Timeline
Phase 3 of the Incheon International Airport expansion project was carried out from June 2009 to December 2017, with a total implementation period of 103 months. This project played a vital role in enhancing the airport’s operational capacity to meet the increasing demand for passenger and cargo transportation.
Scale and Key Components
As part of this phase, Terminal 2 was constructed with a floor area of 388,000 m². Additionally, 54 passenger aircraft aprons and 11 cargo aircraft aprons were built, significantly boosting the airport’s service capacity.
Total Investment
The total investment for Phase 3 amounted to KRW 4.5754 trillion, reflecting the scale and importance of this national aviation infrastructure project.
The Role of LS ELECTRIC
A crucial element in ensuring the stable and efficient operation of the new terminal’s power system is the substation infrastructure. LS ELECTRIC, one of South Korea’s leading electrical equipment companies, supplied 72 Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) units for the project. GIS is a switchgear technology insulated by SF₆ gas, known for its stable and safe operation, as well as its space-saving design—making it especially suitable for large-scale facilities such as airports.
